downpour

downpour

day after day
year after year
eternal sunshine
pouring down on us
volatile weather
Where are we headed?

if all the ice melts
can we still live here
California dreaming
coastline eroding

torrential downpour
of El Niño fame
feels good for the garden
I’m glad to have shelter
and a break back to normal
when rain was more common
than everyday sunshine
volatile weather,
California edition

planet in heat
feverishly struggling
in silence
trying to get
our attention

people in heat
collectively drowning our terror
of what shall become of the future
projecting the blame
protecting our self
our way of belonging

forgetting that we are bound together
in a cellular intimacy
we cannot escape
her destiny is mine
all of ours
together

if we really knew
the house was on fire
one nightfull of torrents
is not solving the problem
assigning the blame
is not solving the problem
killing the villains
is not solving the problem

no way to get out
jump ship
not an option
we’re in this together
have better start talking

solutions
on small scale
and large scale
must happen
sequestering carbon
reducing our output

instead we’re invited
to Oscars and movies
stay busy
don’t bother
to think what might happen

morningsun rising
replacing the heavy
clouds
such vision of promise
of light in the darkness

inviting a walk
in the newly washed city
freshness and lushness

Life
is returning
